Synopsis:

Aspiring filmmaker and wallflower Twinkle Mehra has stories she wants to tell and universes she wants to explore, if only the world would listen. So when fellow film geek Sahil Roy approaches her to direct a movie for the upcoming Summer Festival, Twinkle is all over it. The chance to publicly showcase her voice as a director? Dream come true. The fact that it gets her closer to her longtime crush, Neil Roy—a.k.a. Sahil’s twin brother? Dream come true x 2.

When mystery man “N” begins emailing her, Twinkle is sure it’s Neil, finally ready to begin their happily-ever-after. The only slightly inconvenient problem is that, in the course of movie-making, she’s fallen madly in love with the irresistibly adorkable Sahil.

Twinkle soon realizes that resistance is futile: The romance she’s got is not the one she’s scripted. But will it be enough?

Told through the letters Twinkle writes to her favorite female filmmakers, From Twinkle, with Love navigates big truths about friendship, family, and the unexpected places love can find you.

Main Characters

  • Twinkle Mehra- teen filmmaker, main protagonist
  • Sahil Roy- Twinkle's main love interest

Plot

Told through letters Twinkle writes in her diary and an occasional blog post from Sahil under a pseudo name about Twinkle's summer journey fulfilling her dream of being a filmmaker. Twinkle has a hard time fitting in with the cool crowd. She compares high school students to Shakespeare attendees; either you are a poor outcast 'groundling' or a wealthy popular 'silk feathered hat' literally above everyone else. Typical teenage angst with low self-esteem has Twinkle feeling like a common groundling and she wants to raise her social status like her BFF recently has. The upcoming Summer Festival gives Twinkle the perfect opportunity to showcase her talent and develop her passion for film. There are a whole slew of supporting cast which helps Twinkle see outside of her narrow world view and make a happily ever after, even if she has to make a few edits along the way.

Setting

Present day- the month of June

Theme

Touches on self-esteem.

What did I like about the book?

I listened to When Dimple Met Rishi last year and absolutely loved the audiobook so I just knew I had to get my hands on From Twinkle with Love also. Both stories have ambitious teen Indian-American main characters with special skills and adorable quirks but the storylines are completely different. I really enjoy reading about other cultures and family dynamics. Twinkle is such a believable character. I think the author does a wonderful job really showing  natural various relationship growths and fallouts complete with how teens think and act out with the faulty self-centered thinking that everyone lives through.

What did I not like about the book? N/A
