Part love story, part thriller, We Were Liars meets Goodbye Days in this suspenseful, lyrical debut.

It’s hard to find the truth beneath the lies you tell yourself.

THEN They were four—Bex, Jenni, Ellory, Ret. Electric, headstrong young women; Ellory’s whole solar system.

NOW Ellory is alone, her once inseparable group of friends torn apart by secrets, deception, and a shocking incident that changed their lives forever.

THEN Lazy summer days. A party. A beautiful boy. Ellory met Matthias and fell into the beginning of a spectacular, bright love.

NOW Ellory returns to Pine Brook to navigate senior year after a two-month suspension and summer away—no boyfriend, no friends. No going back. Tormented by some and sought out by others, troubled by a mysterious note-writer who won’t let Ellory forget, and consumed by guilt over her not entirely innocent role in everything and everyone she’s lost, Ellory finds that even in the present, the past is everywhere.

The path forward isn’t a straight line. And moving on will mean sorting the truth from the lies—the lies Ellory has been telling herself.

Author Q & A

I love getting to know authors! Fantastic Flying Book Club gave me the opportunity to have a little Q & A with Kit Frick about her upcoming release.

1.     What was your inspiration for SEE ALL THE STARS?
I’m drawn to complex characters, and my writer-brain delights in putting them in very tough situations and empowering them to dig their ways out. The idea for See All the Stars began with a “what if?” question: What if a girl lost all her friends and her boyfriend in one fell swoop—and what if she was partly responsible for what happened? Ellory’s story unfolded from there.

me: What a great approach! I'm so intrigued by this.
2.     What is the most important theme in SEE ALL THE STARS?
When I set out to write See All the Stars, I knew I wanted to dig deep into friendships between teen girls. It’s been my experience—and the experience of many women in my life—that friendships between women in adolescence and early adulthood are rarely simple. They’re intense—intensely good, intensely close, intensely consuming, intensely critical, intensely imbued with meaning, intensely fraught with the trappings of personal identity formation and navigating an often unforgiving social world. Exploring those friendship—the amazing and the ugly—was the thematic impulse that drove the book.

me: Being a mother of teen daughters, I agree with the relationship I agree with this whole statement about their friendships.
3.     Do you keep an inspiration board for characters or settings to visualize while writing?
Yes! I have a See All the Stars inspiration board up on Pinterest, which includes character and setting photos as well as some fun book stuff! J

me: thanks for the link! I will definitely check it out while reading See All the Stars.

4.     Do you have any hobbies?
Of course! When I’m not writing or editing, I’m probably reading, hanging out with my husband and cats, cooking, or revisiting my adolescence through music and television (Tori! Alanis! My So-Called Life! Dawson’s Creek!).
5.     What is your favorite dessert?
Chocolate ice cream.

me: great choice for these warm months
6.     What is your preferred reading format; physical copy, ebook, audiobook?
I’m a pretty equal-opportunity reading addict. I love physical books for my home library, ebooks for reading on the train or at the gym, and audio for the beach!
me: same! I have to have a book for whatever situation I find myself in with free time.
